DAVYHULME CAMERA CLUB - Competition Rules  12.01.09  

The decision of the Committee on interpretation of the rules is final

1.  GENERAL                             Any Italics means new item

1.1                (a)  Competitions are open to all members that are held quarterly, annually or as specified.

       (b)     Entries shall be in one or more of the following formats:

        (i)                 Print.

        (ii)                Digital Image

        (iii)               Slide

        (iv)              Audio Visual.

        (c)     Entries are open subject unless otherwise specified.

       (d)     Entries constructed from Royalty or copyright free images when nobody owns the said right are prohibited.

1.2                 (a) Entries shall be the sole work and copyright, including manipulation, of the member except for the

                      print method.

                 (b) Any slide or digital image:

                         (i)     shall not be used twice except for the Related Sets and Audio Visual competitions.

                         (ii)    may be used to produce a print for competition.

                 (c) Slides entries shall for presentation purposes be either:

                         (i)     converted to a digital format by the competition secretary.

                         (ii)    2" by 2" slide mounts, glass mounted and correctly spotted and preferably titled, masking

                                  is permitted.

1.3                 Entries shall:

      (a)      Be handed to the Competition Secretary or deputy not less than 14 days before the event.

      (b)   Comply with appropriate rules or be disqualified.

      (c)      Not be more than 5 years old on the day of the competition unless otherwise specified.

1.4      (a) The Quarterly projected image and print competitions shall be marked out of 10 including half points.

    (b) All other competitions shall be marked as follows:

               (i)       Winner                                    10 points

               (ii)      Very Highly Commended              9 points

               (iii)     Highly Commended                      8 points

               (iv)     Commended                                7 points

               (v)      More than one award may be made in categories 1.4 (ii), (iii), and (iv).

            (c) In the Presidents Prize and Len Hughes Trophy competitions 2 points shall be awarded for each

                  entry not awarded points  in 1.4 (b)   (i), (ii), (iii) and (iv).

 

2  AWARDS

2.1      (a)The winner of a competition shall be awarded a trophy as identified.

    (b) No trophy shall be won outright.

    (c) Competition winners may purchase a plaque through the Competition Secretary.

2.2          The two trophies listed below shall be awarded to the member who has the highest aggregate score

                in the relevant competitions.

    (a)    Presidents Prize

    For all projected images excluding the Club Events and Audio Visual competitions.

    (b)    Les Hughes Trophy

    For all prints excluding the Club Events competition.

 

3  PRINTS

 3.1                 The reverse side of the print shallstate the title of the image, the relevant competition including the

             section where relevant, and the year unless otherwise specified.

3.2                 The mount sizes shall be for:

(a)    Regular and Club Events 25cm(10”) by 20cm(8”).

(b)    Other competitions minimum 25cm(10”) by 20cm(8”); maximum 50cm(20”) by 40cm(16”).

(c)    Prints may be any size not exceeding the mount size.

 4   DIGITAL IMAGES

    All images submitted shall be:

    (a)    JPEG 12’, 1400 wide x 1050 pixels high whether or not the image is portrait or landscape; and where one dimension is less, then the image must be on a black background to make the total file as above.

    (b)    Colour Space to be embedded as  sRGB IEC6 1966-2.1 and not sRGB other than as stated.

5    ANNUAL PRINT

5.1      (i)   Lawrence Morrisey Challenge Shield                Monochrome

    (ii) Flixton Shield                                                       Colour

5.2          Entries to be limited to 6 per section per competitor.

5.3          Prints from film, slide or digital images may be home or trade processed in colour or monochrome.

 

6  QUARTERLY  SLIDE, DIGITAL and PRINT

6.1          Not more than 3 entries may be made in either categoryin each quarter.

6.2          Judges or their spouse/partner shall be allowed not more than four entries in each of the other three

               quarterly competitions in which they are not involved.

6.3          The winner’s plaque for each section shall be retained for that quarter only.

6.4          Entries from this event shall be allowed to be submitted in the Annual Print competition.

 7    SET SUBJECT   SLIDE and DIGITAL

           Projected Images:- Davyhulme Camera Club Cup

           Print:- Frank Hey Memorial Rosebowl

7.1          The competition subject shall be announced by the committee not less than 9 months prior to the event.

7.2          Entries shall:

    (a)    be taken following the competition subject announcement.

    (b)    not have been entered in any other club competition.

    (c)    be a maximum 6 projected images and/or prints.

 8    RELATED SETS   SLIDE and DIGITAL

            TheTrafford Shield

8.1               A set shall compriseof 6 images (slides or digital) linked by a common theme related to the title.

8.2               Entries shall:

      (a)    be identified by the set title and projection order.

      (b)    be limited to 2 sets.

 9   AUDIO VISUAL

 

The Davyhulme Trophy

9.1               Digital Image entries shall:

      (a)    be submitted within a folder giving the entrants name, on USB stick or CD.

      (b)    not exceed 8 minutes.

      (c)    be compiled with a stand-alone EXE program.

9.2               Slide entries shall be:

      (a)      Arranged for dual projection.

      (b)     Accompanied by a taped sound track on a standard cassette with Imatronic pulses or projected by the competitor with an Imatronic hand control

9.3               All entries shall:

              (a)  be limited to 2 per person including as part of a group.

                    (b)  Entries may be submitted by a group of 2 or more members.

 

10  LANDSCAPE

                The Arthur Bowers Trophy

10.1          The subject of landscape shall be given a wide, creative interpretation.

10.2          Entries shall be limited to 6 projected images.

 

11   CLUB EVENTS

    Nicholas Wood Trophy                               Projected Images

    Jack Walters Memorial Trophy                   Prints

11.1           Entries shall:

    (a)    be slides, digital images or prints.

    (b)    have been taken at the specified club activities as announced by the committee.

    (c)    be a maximum of 6 slides or digital images and/or 6 prints.
